Description:
Yeagarup Lake is the gateway to the pristine Yeagarup Dunes which are located in the D'Entrecasteaux National Park on the coast. The Yeagerup Sand Dunes are one of the finest examples of landlocked mobile dunes in Australia. It is located approx 30minutes from Pemberton. The sand dunes rise metres above the surrounding Karri forest. This dune system is moving slowly inland encroaching on the forest and wetlands in its path. On the other side of the dunes is Yeagarup Beach. Yeagarup Lake has a curved boardwalk which stretches 30m out into the lake. The sand dunes are about 20km southwest of Pemberton, and are an odd sight when you first come upon them, rising up to 40m above otherwise normal forest. They form a ten kilometre long body of sand being blown inland, swallowing the forest at a rate of about 4 metres each year. Slow, but unstoppable.
