Description:
The Peel-Harvey Estuary is a large system of shallow estuarine and saline, brackish and freshwater lakes that is home to many waterbirds and marine wildlife including dolphins, blue swimmer crabs and various fish species., The estuary covers some 136km2 and is heavily used for recreational boating and fishing and there are many picnic spots and boat ramps along the shoreline. The Murray River, which flows into the Peel Harvey Estuary, has played a significant part in the expansion of the settlement in Western Australia. The river flows from the Darling Scarp, through Pinjarra and into the Peel-Harvey estuary. Like the estuary the river is used for recreational boating and fishing and is abundant with birds and marine wildlife including dolphins, pelicans, black swans, blue swimmer crabs and various fish species.
