Description:Shepherds Hut Wines was established in 1996. The vineyard is situated in the eastern foothills of the Porongurup Ranges in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The vineyard is named after an historic 1850s stone hut which was found in ruins on an adjacent property. Built of beautiful honey-coloured Mt Barker stone, the hut was one of four in the district which were used by local shepherds as shelter while grazing their flocks along the Kalgan River. The hut has since been rebuilt and now overlooks the vineyard, with spectacular sweeping views to both the Porongurup and Stirling Ranges. It is here in a region that is fast becoming renowned for its fine quality cool climate table wines, that fastidious and thorough management practices are being combined with a unique environment to produce wine grapes of the highest quality. Shepherds Hut is a family business. They created the vineyard from the ground up on north facing slopes of working sheep and cattle farm. They are involved in the management of the vineyard, along with the marketing & distribution.
