Description:The rectangular concrete Swimming Pool was constructed 1943 in an effort by the mining company to provide better facilities and retain staff during World War II. The pool was also enjoyed by the community, especially the children, who spent many hours swimming in it during the summer. The mine supplied water for the pool, which also served as a reservoir for use during fire emergencies. In 1965 the swimming pool was bought by a local contractor so that the children at Gwalia and Leonora could continue to enjoy it. Leonora is a 2.5 hour drive north of Kalgoorlie. Kalgoorlie is a 1 hour flight or a 6.5 hour drive east of Perth. Today the empty pool is fenced off and sits right on the edge of the open cut mine.
