Mattie Furphy House
Australia / Swanbourne, Western Australia
Location ID: #10294427
This State Heritage listed house, built in 1909, is a rare example of a domestic home decoratively fitted out in the style of the Arts and Craft Movement. It has a large main room that opens onto a verandah, a fully equipped kitchen, a number of smaller rooms and two bathrooms. The property is a single storey, timber framed and clad house
with a corrugated galvanised steel roof in a Federation Bungalow style.
The property is under the care of the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA (FAWWA) and was built by the author Joseph Furphy (aka Tom Collins) for his son and daughter-in-law. The house is surrounded by natural bush, adjacent to ovals, and is within walking distance of Swanbourne beach and sits next to FAWWA's other historic property, Tom Collins House.
