Greenbushes Discovery Centre
Australia / Greenbushes, Western Australia
Location ID: #10283238
The Centre is a local tourist attraction located near the Greenbushes Heritage Park, which includes interpretive displays It provides insights into the town's history, particularly its tin mining heritage.
The Centre has a replica underground mining tunnel and our own railway station. The station was moved in 2023 from its original location in North Greenbushes and is in a secure and screened yard - and has no trains coming past making it ideal.
The Centre is a 1901-built former general store. This single storey brick building features large rendered masonry pediments, which hide the tall double gables from the front. The large display windows make up the majority of the façade at street level and at some point the original timber verandah was replaced with a cantilevered verandah, retaining the use of timber posts. Internally, the pressed metal ceilings remain.
This historic mining/timber town is situated 250km south of Perth and is located between Balingup and Bridgetown on the south west highway in the state's south-west.
