Derby is a town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. At the 2011 census, Derby had a population of 4,865, with about half of Aboriginal descent. Located on King Sound, Derby has the highest tides in Australia, with the peak differential between low and high tide reaching 11.8 metres
The Port of Derby is managed by the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley on behalf of the Department of Transport under a port operation agreement.
A boat ramp is located at the Derby Wharf and is a popular location for recreational fishing.
Derby is a 24 hour drive north east of Perth or a 2 hour drive east of Broome. Broome is a 2.5 hour flight north of Perth.
