West Arthur- Farmland
Australia / Darkan, Western Australia
Location ID: #10161034
The farmlands around West Arthur are very varied with some areas suitable for cropping, others for sheep. We have lots of rocky outcrops and rolling hills. The countryside in the winter months is awash with green and gold (canola) and during the summer months the burnt brown, dusty paddocks are common. There are a multitude of farm dams for watering stock around the shire. The Shire is just under a 3hour drive from Perth; 263km (163 miles) and 15km (9miles) east of Bunbury. The Shire of West Arthur is nestled between the forests of the south-west and the wheatbelt to the west. Darkan is the main town and administrative centre with a number of smaller localities and settlements scattered through-out the Shire.
At 2580 sq.km it is one of the larger shires in the area and is home to Lake Towerrinning, clear dark skies, unique flora and abundant wildlife. There are significant historical buildings which are some of the best preserved examples in the region.
