Swanleigh

Australia / Middle Swan, Western Australia
Location ID: #10089175

Swanleigh is situated in the picturesque rural environment of the Swan Valley. It includes numerous buildings such as Brown House, Waylen House, Cornwell House, Lee Steere House, Alfred Guy Memorial Hall, and others, forming a large campus‑style environment. Accommodation, dining and conference facilities are available all year round for school, sporting and adult groups. Swanleigh provides a tranquil setting for onsite activities and is an ideal base. Swanleigh offers a large range of practical facilities for hosting both camp and conference groups. These include conference rooms and meeting spaces with a flexible range of set-up options to cater for both small and large groups.
Swanleigh is a historic institutional precinct that operated from the mid‑1800s through the late 20th century as a mission school, orphanage, children’s home, and later a boarding hostel. The Swanleigh Precinct contains multiple heritage buildings constructed between 1850 and 1995, forming a cohesive landscape of:
19th‑century institutional architecture
Brick and stone buildings typical of early mission and orphanage design
Historic landscape elements, including mature plantings, paddocks, wetlands, and watercourses
Swanleigh is historically associated with the Anglican Church, originally operating as the Swan Boys’ Orphanage, Swan Girls’ Orphanage, and later Swan Homes. It was managed by the Perth Diocesan Trustees and the Swanleigh Council.
Today, the site is heritage‑listed and no longer operates as a school or hostel. Swanleigh is the historic Anglican precinct, and the Swan Valley Adventure Centre is the modern camp and activity facility now operating on that same property.
Swanleigh sits between Jane Brook and the Swan River, with the land sloping down toward the river
