His Majesty's Theatre
Australia / Perth, Western Australia
Location ID: #10088656
Since opening on Christmas Eve in 1904, His Majesty's Theatre has become one of Western Australia's most-loved State Heritage Icons.
Located on the corner of Hay and King Streets in Perth's central business district, this 4- Edwardian Baroque theatre has a 1240-seat auditorium featuring a proscenium arch, a flat stage, and an orchestra pit that can be converted into additional seating if needed.
One of only two His Majesty's Theatres worldwide, it has undergone several renovations, including a major refurbishment from 1978 to 1980 after being acquired by the Western Australian government and most recently, in 2023, the theatre reintroduced its original balconies, which can now be enjoyed by visitors. The structure is 4-storeys tall and its features were influenced by 19th-century English and European theatres. It has been described as "a fine example" of Federation Free Classical or Edwardian Baroque architecture.
Regularly featuring performances from resident companies West Australian Opera and West Australian Ballet, the theatre continues to offer a vibrant and diverse program of performing arts to Perth audiences.
