Wylie Bay
Australia / Bandy Creek, Western Australia
Location ID: #10083656
The Wylie Bay beachfront stretches for more than a kilometre and provides access to Le Grande Beach. The spot is unique because the tide creates a sandbar to walk across to a large rock formation about 50-metres from the shoreline.
Wylie Bay has vegetated Holocene parabolic dunes that reach up to 5km inland, and also massive vegetated Pleistocene transgressive dunes averaging 60-80m in elevation that in places extend 35km to the west, reaching the shores of Rossiter Bay and beyond. Many of the inner dunes were reactivated during the glacial maxima (approximately 18 000-20 000 years ago) and have a more westerly orientation together with numerous water-filled deflation hollows. The entire system covers and area of about 350km2, and surround some of the inner granite peaks.
