Australia / Perth, Western Australia
Location ID: #10083545
The Supreme Court Buildings and Gardens comprise a permanent entry on the Heritage Council of WA Register of Heritage Places (2003), and are classified by the National Trust (1978), and are a permanent entry on the Register of the National Estate (1980). The Supreme Court of Western Australia is the State’s highest judicial authority, responsible for major civil matters, serious criminal trials, appeals, and probate. It operates from the historic Supreme Court building in central Perth and from a newer multi‑level court complex.
The Supreme Court’s historic building is a Federation‑era civic structure, restored and maintained for its architectural significance. Renovation work emphasised structural symbolism, clarity of circulation, and connections to the Swan River, drawing inspiration from the river’s form to shape interior flow and sightlines.
The newer 14‑level court complex incorporates contemporary materials, organic interior forms, and expansive windows designed to provide natural light and river views, creating a more intuitive and humane public environment.
The Supreme Court buildings are owned by the Government of Western Australia. Court sittings occur year‑round according to the judicial calendar. The site will be primarily used for exterior shoots.
