Millstream-Chichester National Park is a comfortable two hour drive from Karratha in Western Australia (WA) and offers some of the best nature based camping opportunities in the region. Covering an area of approximately 200,000 hectares around the Fortescue River – the heartland of the Yindjibarndi people - this lush oasis of deep gorges and palm-fringed rock pools provides a stark contrast to the surrounding landscape of rocky escarpments and rolling spinifex-covered hills.
Millstream National Park is a 1.5 hour drive south of Karratha, which is a 2 hour flight or 16 hour drive north of Perth.

A natural aquifer, the water here is drinkable and continually refreshed. A mix of hardwood and paper-tree forest, creating and sustaining shelter is very possible. There is Catfish, Spangled Perch and Redclaw to fish for, with plentiful vegetation, roots, bush fruits and grubs to be foraged. Protected species include Pilbara Olive Pythons, Dingos and some small mammals.

The cool season is between May and August and experiences little rain, with daytime temperatures around 26°Cs. Nights at this time of year can drop to 10°Cs. During summer, from October to April, temperatures rise above 40°Cs and cyclones and local thunderstorms can flood areas around Millstream with 35mm of rainfall. By October average max temperatures can approach 35°Cs. November becomes uncomfortable with weeks of incredible build up (48°Cs, 80% humidity, no rain) before a week of heavy rain. The water level is dependable across the year.
